Sony reduces the price of the PlayStation 3 game console, hoping to help the system to 5 years of age, reach a wider audience, the company said Tuesday.

The base model now costs $ 250, and a system with twice the storage space is $ 300. Sony cut $ 50 each, which is almost the price of a new game.
"While others in the room is losing strength, PlayStation 3 is gaining momentum," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America said in a statement. "The new price will make the PS3 more accessible than ever."


Sony last cut prices on PlayStation 3 in 2009, when it unveiled a slimmer model. Microsoft has not reduced the price of the Xbox 360 since 2009, and analysts are divided over whether it will this year as a response to Sony. The entry level Xbox 360 costs $ 200.
